Use a chronological resume template. Microsoft Word Document (.docx) is usually preferred by ATS but if the job posting says PDF, use PDF.
In general, ATS can parse Microsoft Word Document .docx with better accuracy. It depends on the company and the ATS software they are using, but if the job description says PDF only, then only submit PDF-version of your resume.
